Building a streetwear buying brief
An effective apparel brief translates an attitude into fit, fabric, colour and finishing decisions that can be sampled and reviewed.
Define the silhouette
Use specific fit references: length, shoulder shape, body width and leg profile. A word such as oversized is a direction, not a measurement specification.
Describe the fabric
Share preferred composition, fabric weight and handfeel. Ask how the garment should be evaluated for shrinkage, colourfastness and care once actual samples are available.
Resolve the graphic
Provide clear artwork files and placement references. Ask which production methods are available and review a sample of the intended treatment before approval.
Plan the size run
Name the target market and requested size distribution. Confirm measurement tolerances, labelling and packing instructions alongside price and lead time.
Three useful questions.
- Which measurements define the intended fit?
- What fabric and artwork references will guide the sample?
- How should sizes, labels and packaging be specified?
This guide supports enquiry planning. Product-specific, safety and market requirements must be checked against the actual goods and applicable requirements.
